More on understanding the face muscles

April 13, 2010

Yes, this is another tutorial by Riven Phoenix that I studied from. In this tutorial we are drawing and understanding the muscles of the face. One half shows the muscles, the other half is a generic concept of how the face looks with the skin over the muscles.

Drawing and Understanding The Hand

April 8, 2010

Drawing the hands with Riven Phoenix. This is a basic front and back study. We learn how to construct the hand starting with proportions, bones, muscles, and tendons. To get better at hands, one must practice.

Leg Muscle Studies with Riven Phoenix

April 7, 2010

Here are several examples of drawing and understanding the human leg. I approached it step by step; from the skeletal bone, following the muscles and tendons. I drew the leg from 4 different angles. Front, Back, Inside, and Outside. Again, I am studying with Riven Phoenix “The Structure of man” DVD series.

Advanced Studies of The Foot With Riven Phoenix

April 6, 2010

The following studies are expanded studies off earlier lessons of understanding the foot. In this update we study the tendons, muscles, and the pulley system of the foot; also, notice how the general size of foot compares to the human skull. (click on thumbnail to enlarge).

Studying The Arms, Torso Front and Back With Riven Phoenix

April 5, 2010

In this lesson I drew out the torso and muscles. This lesson was different and interesting because I drew one half as the front and the other half as the back.

Skull Refrence in Poser 7-8 3D Software

March 30, 2010

Poser 7 (Poser 8 and Poser Pro 2010) is a phenomenal 3D program. I wont get into details just yet. One thing I will say is that, if there are artists who wish they had access to live models and props for drawing, this program is probably the next best thing. I found a skull in my poser library and decided to take some snap shots in various angles for drawing. Look out for my up coming review and experience with using poser 3D software.

Urban Rockwell Drawing The Pelvis With Riven Phoenix

March 28, 2010

I have gained so much knowledge of the figure with Riven Phoenix. Here are a few sketches with notes on the human pelvis. Again, this is a general study of the pelvis. For a more detailed breakdown of the pelvis use a real anatomy reference book.

Drawing the torso with Riven Phoenix

March 16, 2010

Here are some studies of the torso. I have a better understanding of the torso since I, took a thorough observation of the proportions relating to the size of skull. Nipples start at 2nd head, width of torso(shoulders) are found by dividing the width; front view of the head. Add that width twice to get torso and shoulder width.

ALSO: Note this is an earlier study of the torso. The measurement of the chest should be lowered down slightly from the 2nd head. The nipples line on the second head, then the bottom of chest. From there the abs begin to attach.

You will see this update in the advanced study of the torso coming up.

Simplified Approach of the Torso with Riven Phoenix

February 27, 2010

This is a simplified approach in earlier stages of understanding the torso.  At this point we’re not pushing exact or precise but the understanding or general idea of the torso. In the more advanced stages of the torso we actually extend the torso down by about a third. For example, where we place the points on the 2nd head to start the chess, would be where the nipples actually start and the arch shape would push down a little more; That area is where the abs will begin to connect. I wont go into super detail, you can check out Riven Phoenix tutorials to get the full understanding.
