I would like to thank the South Shore Distinctly Art Festival staff for selecting my work for the group exhibition. This is the first time exhibiting my work in the Chicago South Shore area. The staff curators did a great job installing the work for the window display; it’s very vibrant and clean, and really catches your attention.
The exhibit has been up since October and will run through March(there will be a close out reception at the end of March). If you happen to be in the south shore area check it out on 71st and Oglesby.
One last note; this is a small part of the Mother Earth Conservation exhibit. Look out for the Conservation Exhibit A sometime this year.

My art postings

May 27, 2010

My postings have been slower lately. The reason being; I’m studying art principles and fundamentals. I’m also working on a special art project. The theme is Green Earth awareness with a fantasy art twist. I am integrating what I’m learning with fundamentals and art principles with the project. Never the less, I shall continue to give great resources and discoveries for the creative minds. Thanks

Daz3d Studio

May 3, 2010

If you’re familiar with poser you may want to get familiar with Daz Studio as well. The studio version is the full version, but you need additional pug-ins to get the most out of the softare. Personally, I wouldn’t buy the plug-ins, I would just go ahead and buy the professional version to save money. Daz Studio is a free, but powerful 3-d program that’s pretty easy to use. Depending on your needs for 3D software there are many possibilities with the software. For starters, I love that you have ready to pose figures for animation tests and production. From my experience it’s great for posing figures as reference tools for drawing. some of the 3D figures have easy morph capabilities.

For example; you can load up a regular human face, and with the turn of a dial, you can make him animal like, creature like, etc. It really helps you save time and money from trying to find photo reference, or paying someone to model for you. Don’t get me wrong, it could never replace life drawing; but it sure is the next best thing. Below is additional information about Daz 3D.

DAZ Studio 3

This is the perfect tool to design unique digital art and animation using virtual people, animals, props, vehicles, accessories, environments and more. Simply select your subject and/or setting, arrange accessories, setup lighting, and begin creating beautiful artwork.

Great news: New Art Blog, Website, Giveaway info

March 26, 2010

This is Urban Rockwell of Chicago! I know many of you that know me, know that I’m usually hosting exhibits, performances, etc. I’ve been low-key for nearly a year now. I had to slow down to improve my career and help others along the way. There are several things in the works and other things going on right now.

For starters, I’ve been studying the figure, exploring concept and entertainment art, new software; 2d, 3d, web and design.

Also, I just launched my new official site, New look, regular updates, etc. I am also proud that I pushed myself to produce an artist resource blog to help other artists, designers, and other useful info on WordPress.

The blog is filled with informative reviews for drawing, painting, creative software, access to free software, etc. This is how i want to start giving back so I can move ahead in my career and life. I urge anyone that knows someone interested in the arts; or don’t know how to access resources to get into the art, design, and 3D field, please recommend my blog. I got really inspired to push this after having the opportunity to host drawing workshops for Black History month 2010. I received a lot of feedback and inquiries about art.

To anyone who gets involved with helping push my art resources blog and official website; I will have plenty of give aways. Such as free original designed T-Shirts exclusively from me, Self Portraits, Prints, Originals, and more. If this sounds good follow me on WordPress or sign up on my official site to know when the give aways, contests, and referrals programs come up. I may even come out and teach a workshop or speak for a free day.

Simplified Approach of the Torso with Riven Phoenix

February 27, 2010

This is a simplified approach in earlier stages of understanding the torso.  At this point we’re not pushing exact or precise but the understanding or general idea of the torso. In the more advanced stages of the torso we actually extend the torso down by about a third. For example, where we place the points on the 2nd head to start the chess, would be where the nipples actually start and the arch shape would push down a little more; That area is where the abs will begin to connect. I wont go into super detail, you can check out Riven Phoenix tutorials to get the full understanding.

Using blogging to express and share my creativity

November 13, 2009

I’ve tried  several approaches of sharing and expressing my passion for the arts; Such as drawing, painting, designing, writing, photography, etc.  I’ve reached people through exhibits, libraries, email, sometimes on my website, but not on a consistent basis. I’m really sincere and passionate about keeping a consistent blog for the arts. I feel I need to share more, not just keep these artsy ideas in my mind, or kept away in my closet collecting dust. Some things I want to accomplish with my blogs are, sharing my experience and advice as a professional artist and designer. Give reviews on art software, dvd tutorials, different professions in the arts, how to instruction, sharing my creations, as well as learning and growing as an artist.
