Chicago Artist To Display Work in Theatre Lobby

Throughout the Month of February

North Riverside, IL – Some artists illustrate the work of writers. Michael Burton “Urban Rockwell” handled both sides of the equation in “Let Me Paint a Picture,” a self-published book of stories and poems. Acrylic paintings and works of graphite on paper from that book are among the works he’ll be showing throughout the month of February 2012, Black History Month. Visitors to the North Riverside Mall Theatre, located at 7501 West Cermak Road, can see these along with examples of Burton’s earlier works on display in the lobby exhibit space.

Burton has been drawing and painting for most of his young life, and says he was inspired to become an artist by his late father Michael Burton, “the first artist I ever knew.” Burton began seriously pursuing art while recuperating from a cancer diagnosis. As an artist, he has a realistic, stylized approach; exploring various subject matter as well as different mediums.

“I love to capture the beauty of nature, landscapes, and illustrating the human figure in beautiful environments that tell thought provoking stories, Burton says. “I also believe that crafting art can change the world.”  Burton studied his craft at Olive Harvey Jr. College and the American Academy of Art. Each month, the North Riverside Mall Theatre provides lobby space to display the works of local artisans. Classic Cinemas, based in Downers Grove, Illinois, is a family-owned company operated by Willis, Shirley and Chris Johnson. Established in 1978, Classic Cinemas operates 13 theatres with 100 screens in 12 communities in the Chicagoland and northern Illinois area.
